History
The annual"Mummy B’s Crusaders Youth Walkathon" event is designated to support a scholarship fund in honor of the late Rev. (Mrs.) Oluyemisi Babajide. The scholarship and funds raised are utilized for a vision that she birthed 14 years ago. This vision is to empower youths, named the Crusaders Youth and culminates in the annually held “Crusaders Youth Camp”. Established in 2005, Crusaders Youth programs are designed for youth in Paulsboro and surrounding Gloucester County communities. This year, we would like to increase the participation of our Paulsboro community through coordinated efforts with the city. Although our event is a fundraising opportunity, we invite our Paulsboro residents to join free of cost. We will have a free barbeque and free t-shirts for Paulsboro residents.
The annual residential summer camp is designed for youth between the ages of 6 to 21 years. Crusaders Youth Camp (CYC) is hosted by colleges and universities in different parts of North America, giving participating students an opportunity to experience a college campus, with lots of fun activities and hands-on workshops (i.e., science, technology, engineering, math, photography and film, sewing and fashion design, financial management, healthy lifestyles, leadership, debate, swimming, contact sports, dance, and social skills). We also keep the older students engaged in college preparation activities such as developing a personal statement, applying for financial aid and scholarships, and preparing for college interviews. Not only do participating students see that college can be exciting and fun, our goal is to ensure that they learn about many interesting career options, particularly in STEM fields and careers.
